Crossword puzzles allow children to read a clue and then fill the correct word into a word box which intersects other word boxes. The clues can either be provided in a list for the child to cross off as he/she fills the word boxes, or can be left for the child to figure out on their own. As the child completes the puzzle, they are rewarded with seeing all the boxes transform from blank to full, with words intersecting each other. Crossword puzzles are excellent for facilitating logical thinking and strengthening spelling skills.
